The M3RHT50 torque arm gearbox is the smallest frame of the right-angle industrial family, and its defining feature is in the middle letter pair: the housing is shaft-mounted, and the reaction torque is taken out through a torque arm anchored to the machine frame instead of through feet bolted to a foundation. A spiral-bevel input turns the motor 90 degrees, and the hollow low-speed shaft rides directly on the driven machine shaft.
Shaft mounting does away with the alignment work that a foot-mounted drive demands. The gear unit is slid onto the machine shaft, the torque arm is pinned to a fixed point, and the drive is held concentric by the shaft itself. For conveyors, elevators and screw drives that are built and rebuilt as plant layouts change, that difference shows up every time a drive point is moved: no bedplate to fabricate, no coupling to align, no shimming campaign.

Because size 50 is the entry frame, it covers the drive points where torque is moderate but uptime still matters: plant internal conveyors, small elevators, feeders and agitators. The same code logic extends up the ladder, so a plant that starts on this frame can scale the drive standard without changing suppliers, oil grades or inspection routines.

The build suits any position where the machine shaft is the natural datum: head pulleys, elevator head shafts, screw conveyor tails, rotary feeder shafts under silos. It is also the pragmatic choice where no foundation exists at all - steelwork, gantries, mobile equipment. One caution applies: the torque arm must land on a structure that can absorb the reaction through the full starting torque, and the machine shaft bearings must be rated for the added gear unit weight. WGT checks both items against the installation drawing before confirming the selection.

Frame sizes in this series follow a widely used industrial dimension ladder: foundations, couplings and guards of the existing installation are reused as they are.
A cement plant drives its clinker transport belt with reducers in dusty, high-ambient conditions. Sealed housings and a 40 deg C maximum temperature rise let the units sit close to the kiln without extra cooling.
A paper mill uses reducers on pulp chest agitators. Continuous 24-hour duty is handled by lifetime lubrication, and the low backlash keeps the agitator steady when the stock consistency changes.
Conveyor, mixer, crusher and wastewater duties share the same gear family.
Take a 22 kW motor at 1450 rpm driving a shuttle conveyor pulley shaft at 58 rpm. The ratio follows directly: 1450 / 58 = 25, so a ratio near i=25 is selected. In this case the shaft-mounted build with a torque arm needs no foundation, so the drive relocates with the conveyor. Motor speed over target speed gives the ratio; the driven machine decides the service factor, and the two together decide the model.

The series is manufactured to the standard centre distances, shaft dimensions and flange patterns of its frame family, so couplings, guards and foundations do not have to be redesigned. Send the nameplate details and we confirm the equivalent frame in writing.
The permissible overhung load depends on frame size, output speed and the distance from the shaft shoulder - all listed in the catalogue. If you drive a chain sprocket or V-belt pulley direct on the output shaft, send us the load and pitch diameter and we will confirm the limit.
