Selection Example: Bag-closing screw feeder
Take a 3 kW, 1440 rpm motor feeding a screw at 48 rpm. The ratio follows directly: 1440 / 48 = 30, so i=30 with the service factor covered. In this case the right-angle layout clears the bagging spout above. Once the ratio is fixed, check the required output torque against the rating table with the service factor applied - that is what decides the frame, not the ratio alone.
